Sworn of Mysteries - Information

The Sworn of Mysteries have the duty to keep the clan organized, make sure that other Sworn are doing their job, and keeping the general clan politics updated. The colour of the Sworn of Mysteries is black. Should there be any formal clan meetings, only members of the Sworn of Mysteries are allowed to wear this colour without any additional decorations. The different titles of the Sworn of Mysteries, as well as its hierarchy, are as follows:

  Seneschals
  Jury Primogen
  Masters of Events
  Lead Updaters
  Site Primogen

  Archbishops
  Diplomats
  Oracle Event Keepers
  Oracle Updaters
  Bishops

  Archbishops
The position of an Archbishop is one that cannot be gained only through levels and clan rank (although, there are some of these that must first be met), you must also send in an application for it. First of all, the level requirements you'll be needing before applying are as follows:
  Clan Rank B or better
10 or more FoM Quest Points
  Prayer level 70 or above

Once these prerequisites are met, you can send in an application to a Seneschal (these are listed on the Primogen page). You are to include the following in your application:
Why would you make a good Archbishop? To be an Archbishop, you must be intelligent as well as a good leader. It's also good if you can express yourself nicely and have good patience when it comes to explaining and guiding. We don't want rude, power hungry assholes.
Have you held any Sworn positions before? If so, describe how you handled it; what you did well and what you could have done better. The more experience you have, the better. You must also know when you've made a mistake, and not be too stubborn to correct this. You must also be able to take criticism without flying off the handle. You must also confirm that you are aware of your responsibilities and will not take it as a personal insult should you not be able to meet them and therefore be rid of your position.

Now for the duties of an Archbishop, what do they do? Well, their main duty is to first and foremost make sure that the Bishops meet their quota. They should also assist the Bishop if they are in need of help regarding an event, coterie members, or anything else that you might also have some expertice in handling. You'll have access to the Sworn of Mysteries forum, in which you should keep notes and records of how well a Bishop is performing. Does he meet his quota, or does he often miss it, just never twice in a row? How do his events turn out? Are they well planned? These are the things you are to take care of, and by all means, feel more than free to divide up the responsibility between yourself and the other Archbishops.

Should you find that a Bishop has missed a quota without giving any valid reason for it, you are to notify him or her of this, reminding them that with power comes responsibility. Should this not help and the Bishop fails his duties two periods in a row (once again without giving any valid reason as of why), then you have the right to either close down his coterie, or put one of the coterie's other members in charge (as long as he or she meets the requirements to become a Bishop, and actually wants it).

Apart from the Bishops, you also have to look after the Oracle Event Keepers and make sure that they do their job as well. However, this duty is not solely yours, but you share it with the Masters of Events. Other than that, the same goes here as it does with the Bishops; if they miss a quota, notify them of it, if they miss two in a row without a valid reason as of why, then remove him or her from the position and possibly replace him with someone else. These decisions are to be taken together with the Masters of Events and other Archbishops.

Another, optional, job an Archbishop may take is to run a coterie of his own. Many Archbishops will most likely be former Bishops with already existing coteries, and they may not want to close it down after the promotion. But you must be aware of the fact that your main duties as an Archbishop comes before your coterie. Should it prove that running your own coterie makes you do less of a good job as an Archbishop, this coterie will be closed down. At the same time, you still have a responsibility over the coterie, and you must meet the same quota as a regular Bishop.

The people who are to look after you and make sure that you do your job are the Seneschals. These are also the people you should turn to in case you have questions or is in need of advice (unless you can take it up with a fellow Archbishop).

  Diplomats
To become a Diplomat, you must send in an application either to a Seneschal or an Archbishop. For this application to be considered, you must first meet a couple of requirements. These are as follows:
  Clan Rank C or better
  Must have done the
Malkavian Memorial quest
Must have done the Ring of Malkav quest
Must have been FoM for at least six months

Once these prerequisites are met, you can send in an application to a Seneschal (these are listed on the Primogen page) or Archbishop (who are listed on the Sworn of Mysteries page). You are to include the following in your application:
Why would you make a good Diplomat? To be a Diplomat, you must be good at handling social situation. You must be well spoken and polite, which includes good spelling. You will also be in need of patience as you're expected to spend a bit of time on other RuneScape boards where idiots are likely to run wild. You must also have a good grasp of our rules and know where to find information on the site. It's also good for a Diplomat to have contacts out in the clan community of RuneScape.

So, what are you supposed to do as a Diplomat? Well, you're going to be an official representative of FoM on other RuneScape forums. You, along with the other Diplomats, will be in charge of posting topics on these forums about the outcome of miniwars, wars, PK-run ins, and other events. You will also act as the link between FoM and the outside clan world. If other clans want to set up a fun event, miniwar, competition, or anything else with FoM, then they should be able to go via you. This requires that you have a big enough presence on fan-sites to be somewhat well known.

Apart from making FoM's official posts on other forums on behalf of FoM, you will also work with "PR." You should be able to answer questions about the clan, correct misunderstandings, and simply be a pretty face to the public. You should make people want to join the clan. Maybe not actively go around recruiting people, but you should be able to show that FoM is a good place to be at.

As it's hard for the Primogen and Archbishops to see if you're doing a good job, we'd also like a weekly evaluation in the Sworn of Malkav forum. In this post we just want you to briefly describe what has happened in the clan world over the past week. Everything from war outcomes to new clans forming or old ones closing is welcome in these reports.

As a Diplomat, you also have the option take a position of a Bishop. Take some time and think it through before you make such a decision, though. Be sure that your not taking too big of a workload on your shoulders, 'cause we don't want you to burn yourself out. Should you fail to fulfil your duties of either positions, it's the position of Bishop that will be taken away from you and you won't be trusted with multiple positions again. Take this as a warning and do not complain if we should deem you unable to fulfil both roles.

  Oracle Event Keepers
To become an Oracle Event Keeper, you must send in an application to a Master of Events or an Archbishop. However, before sending in your application, there are a few requirements you must meet, and these are as follows:
  Clan Rank D or better
4 or more FoM Quest Points

Once you've met the prerequisites, you can send in an application. In this, you are to explain why you think you would make a good Oracle Event Keeper. Have you perhaps organized and ran events before? Or maybe you might have had a position as another Event Keeper before? If the latter, then why do you want to change? And when it comes to the events you've held, what things did you do well and what things could you have done better? You must also be good at expressing yourself and have patience when it comes to questions and criticism. You must also confirm that you are aware of your responsibilites, and will not take it as a personal insult should you not meet these responsibilities and be taken off your position.

Now, down to the duties of the Oracle Event Keepers, what do we expect from you? Well, your job is to organize and lead so called fun events. The definition of fun events can be found on this page.

We expect you to make at least one event every two weeks. You may work together with another Oracle Event Keeper when putting up an event, but then we expect each of the involved to still have one event they can represent on their own every period of two weeks. For an example, let's say that three of you go together and put up a trip to the King Dagannoths. Since there are three people involved, we expect all three of you to have three different events within the two weeks. At the same time, if two of you go together and make an event, then we expect you to have one event per week.

Should the quota not be met during one of these periods, and no valid reason as of why has been given, then a Master of Event or Archbishop will notify you about this, reminding you about your responsibilities. Should you fail to meet two quota in a row, then one of the above mentioned, higher ranked Sworns will have the right to rid you of your position, and if necessary, replace you with another applicant.

If you in advance know that you won't be able to meet a set quota because of "real life" issues, you have the option to ask a fellow Oracle Event Keeper to stand in for you, and make an extra event in your place. This is not something you are forced to do, but in the eyes of your superiors, this is something that will make both you and the substitute look better.

As an Oracle Event Keeper, you have the option to sign up as a Bishop, as well. But such a decision should not be made lightly. Should your own coterie get in the way of your duties as an Oracle Event Keeper, your title as a Bishop will be immediately stripped from you without reconsideration, and you will not be allowed to take two positions again. Also, should you not meet the quota of a Bishop, the same will happen. When it comes to determining how well you meet your quota, we will be even more strict if you hold several positions. Now we will even look towards "real life" issues when deciding if maybe you're not good for the role. If your offline schedule is too busy to give you enough time to fulfil the duties of both the positions, then you should not even consider signing up for them. Take this as a warning, and don't complain if you lose one of the two titles.

  Oracle Updaters
To become an Oracle Updater, you must first meet a couple of requirements, and then send in an application to a Lead Updater or Site Primogen. The requirements to be met are as follows:
  Clank Rank D or better
4 or more FoM Quest Points

When those requirements are met, you are free to send in the application. This is to explain why you want to be an Oracle Updater, and why you'd be good for the role. It helps if you have at least some minor experiences with HTML, but it is not always necessary. If you have previously had the role of another Updater, you are also to explain why you want to change. And with that, you can also tell the Lead Updater or Site Primogen on what you did well as an Updater, and what could have been done better.

When you have sent in your application and a Lead Updater has approved of it, he or she will send you some further information and a small test to prove that you're capable of handling the position. Should you pass this test, the position is yours.

Now, what are you supposed to do as an Oracle Updater? Well, you will be working mainly with On Trialists. Once an application has been posted by a new member, you are first of all to wait for the referral to post a correct confirmation. If the applicant has no referral, then you are to wait for a Jury Primogen to look him or her up and either confirm or deny the application.

Once the application has been confirmed in either of the two ways, you are to take the pieces information posted and paste them in the correct slots of a batch of code that you will get access to via a Site Updates forum. The exact details on what is to be put in where in this document can be found in the previously mentioned forum.

The code is to be posted in a new topic in the Site Updates forum. It should also be quoted into two seperate pieces; one for the profile and one for the On Trial or MTB Graduate page. More details on this can be found in the pinned topic you'll have access to after getting the position.

When the topic has been made, you are to post a message in the application, telling the new member that his profile has been added and just awaits upload. Then I will upload it to the FoM site and set his forum permissions.

If you have never dealt with HTML before, this may sound a bit confusing. But trust me, it's actually quite simple. And should there be any problems, this will come out during the test that a Lead Updater will send you after receiving and approving an application.

As with every other position, this one comes with some responsibilities. Never should there be five or more non-updated On Trialists for a period of seven days in a row. If such is the case, then the least active Oracle Updater will be removed from his position by the Lead Updaters and Site Primogen, and will then be replaced by a new applicant. However, should such be the case two weeks in a row and all of the Oracle Updaters are considered active (adding an average of ten On Trialists per week), then the Site Primogen along with the Lead Updaters will hire a new one. And on the opposite, should there be so few new applications that the average Updater gets to add less than five On Trialists per week, four weeks in a row, then the Site Primogen and Lead Updaters will rid the least active Oracle Updater of his or her position (there should not be more people assigned to a job than there are people needed to accomplish it).

Your overlooking rank will mainly be the Site Primogen, but partly also the Lead Updaters. Should you have any questions, these are the first people to turn to.

As an Oracle Updater, you also have the option to become a Bishop. However, this should be considered heavily, as the quota will be even stricter. The position of an Oracle Updater is ranked above that of a Bishop, so should the multiple positions result in a poor performance in either fields, it's the position of Bishop that will be taken away, along with your coterie. For more information on this, read the last paragraph under the description for Oracle Event Keepers.

_____

  Bishops
(No, they are not a part of the Sworn of the Dying Light.)
First of all, to become a Bishop, you must meet the following requirements:
  Clan Rank D or better
  Prayer level 60 or above
5 or more FoM Quest Points

Once you meet the requirements, you're free to sign up for the position. Your main duty is to run and maintain a Skill Coterie. You will get a forum for your coterie, in which you'll have moderating powers, to ensure that you can keep it all organized and up to date. As the leader of a Skill Coterie, you have a weekly quota of Skill related events to meet. Each week, you must have at least one event for your coterie. Should this not be done, without first giving any valid reasons as of why you won't be able to do so (such as "real life" issues) an Archbishop will point this out to you, reminding you of your responsibilities. Should you miss the quota two weeks in a row, then your coterie will be either closed down or have another member step up and take the role as the Bishop (as long as he or she meets the requirements and actually wants the position).

What counts as a Skill Event? Well, any event that is made to boost one or several members' XP. Examples of such events are Agility training, woodcutting and letting Fletchers cut the logs, mining ores for the Blacksmiths, etc. You are allowed to throw in some fun events a little now and then, but these will not count towards the quota.

Should you know in advance that you will not be able to meet the quota for a week, you may select a Commander from your coterie. The Commander position will only last for a given period, and it allows that member to organize and lead events in your place for the time you are unable to do so. Selecting a Commander is not something that necessarily has to be done, but it will make both you and your coterie look better in the eyes of your superiors.

Another thing you should do every week is to post a brief report in the Sworn of Malkav forum. Here you let the Archbishop know how the week has been, if the event was a success, and other things that might be worth knowing. Perhaps some member is doing a poor job, and messed up the entire event? Note that the report doesn't have to be long, just give the Archbishops something to work with, so that they get a better idea of how the coterie is doing. If you miss this, it holds the same consequences as missing an event (so you can miss one, but if you miss two in a row your coterie will be closed down).

There is an exception to the quota, and that is during your first couple of weeks. From the moment you start your coterie, you have four weeks to prepare and recruit members before the first event has to take place, rather than just one week. However, should there not have been a single event after the first four weeks, your coterie will be closed down and you will lose your position.

As a Bishop, there are three other Sworn positions you may be in at the same time (not all at once, but three options). These are the positions of Diplomat, Oracle Event Keeper, and Oracle Updater. But multiple positions is not something that should be taken on lightly. The position as a Diplomat, Oracle Event Keeper, or Oracle Updater are ranked above that of a Bishop, so should you not fulfil both duties, it is your Bishop rank that will be lost (along with your coterie). To read more about this, check the last paragraph of the information on Diplomats or Oracle Event Keepers.

As previously explained, your overlooking group of Sworn are the Archbishops. If you need any help with any events, or just looking for advice, these are the people to turn to. Questions to them can be either PMed or posted in the Sworn of Malkav forum.

Finally, try not to schedule too many Skill events at the same time as the Generals plan their PKing trips. Some members may be part of a Skill Coterie as well as a War Coterie, so they would not be able to attend both events if scheduled at the same time. This cannot always be avoided, but try to keep an open conversation with the Generals over the Sworn of Malkav forums.
