Storyline

The way I see it some evil army is trying to take over the world. In the beginning of the game one of MegaMan's old "friends" tells MegaMan that he's joined some army and then kidnaps MegaMan, so obviously that's the case. Then as in all MegaMan games you have to wipe out a few bosses for some reason, and all of them have their own stage. And once again, just as in all MegaMan games there are eight of them. They are bigger in the X-series than they were in the first games for NES though, and that has absolutely nothing to do with the storyline.

Gameplay

The controls are as in most MegaMan games very good. MegaMan can shoot, charge his weapon, climb, dash, and jump-dash up walls. Sometimes when you're jump-dashing (jumping up a wall and then dashing through the air to reach another wall) you feel like you need an extra thumb. It's extremely tricky in the beginning, but there are so many places that you have to do this at so you'll learn after a while. If we disregard the learning curve of the jump-dash along with the slippery floor of the ice stage, the controls are really good. The controls themselves can make you hooked to this game, even if it might take a while for you to get used to them.

Now on to the stages. The design of the various stages are very different from one another--not just graphically speaking. The environments changes a lot and you can get special Ride Armours with special skills to use in different kinds of surroundings. And of course you'll get new weapons after defeating bosses and such (I've started to say " . . . and such" a bit too often, I've noticed). While talking about bosses, they are a bit too big for my liking. They are extremely hard to avoid and you have to use the jump-dash technique too much. They should be about MegaMan's size like in the old MegaMan games for the NES, or you should have more space to move around in. Ah well . . . it doesn't ruin the game, and it makes it more of a challenge.

Graphics

The graphics in this game are awesome. Great 2D animations and everything's got a manga-touch to it . . . sort of. Very colourful surroundings that contribute to its beautifulness. The characters are smooth and well drawn and some of the enemies really gets stuck in your memory. And I just love the backgrounds in this game. They're awesome. One thing that should be a bit better are the menus though.

Sound

The sound effects are good and fits the actions. The music is also good, but not as good as in the older MegaMan games. These aren't quite as catchy . . . or something. They fit the surroundings, but they're still not great and don't bring that much feeling to the game as they could've done if they were of the same quality as the music for the first MegaMan games. Some of them are really good though, just to point that out.

Replayability

I haven't gotten the chance to play this game that much, so I'm not really sure. But from what I've played I can imagine that the replayability is at least decent. The only thing that's blocking the replayability is the first stage. It's sort of like an intro stage that you have to start with. Ok, it's fun to play and you get to control Zero, but they taaalk too much in it and that gets frustrating if you play it too many times. But you can always type in the password for when you've just completed the intro stage though. Yay! And then you'll be able to choose from all the eight other stages.

Originality

Haha. Not very good. It's like all the other MegaMan games but with a few unique things. So there is some originality, but not a lot of it.

Overall

A good action platformer with great controls and great graphics that will get you hooked at least for a short while. The sound effects and music are ok and the replayability good. And Capcom has at least tried to make this a bit more original than a few other games in the MegaMan series, and in a few places they have succeeded. A side effect of that is the story that requires an intro, though, which I could've done without.

A good game that is worth buying if you're either a MegaMan fan or don't own that many other MegaMan games.

It's time to end this somewhat hiatus and start writing video game reviews for no one again. Funny that after all of these months of college and unemployment I start wasting time with video games and shitty reviews once I finally get a job.

Also, maybe I'll start reviewing games that have been released within the past six months for once thanks to my new disposable (heavy emphasis on this word) income. Maybe.

I got an urge to collect crap for my chao in Sonic Adventure 2 Battle. I had quite a lot of fun until I realised that I already had a chao with 99 in all stats. That took a bit of the fun away but I have another 16 chao I can level up. But now I'm in a mood to play Zelda instead.

I'm quite glad I went through with this The Green Shell idea. Combined with Hair, I've managed to build up a little backlog of updates that could last me at least a week. Although I have a feeling I'll put out a few of them at a time, which means I'll run out sooner. But yeah, while it's not necessarily easy to come up with shitty ideas for it, I have been looking around at a lot of random video game stuff over the last 12 hours and it's quite fun. I also need to play some more Star Ocean; I've got reptile aliens to kill and annoying girls to ignore! My hatred for Welch has gone down a lot since I got Lymle into my party. That annoying fuck pisses me off, 'kay.
