Under 18? Then leave. This site contains foul language and foul fake-opinions from foul people, and people under 18 die if they read those words and/or opinions.

Also, if you're easily offended, you do best in leaving, as well. It is all meant to be for fun, but you are still likely to be offended.

Turok: Rage Wars

1999 Iguana - Acclaim - N64

Storyline

Oh, yes, the storyline. Umm . . . I've sort of forgot about it. Heh. Well . . . You are an indian who has to fight- Hang on. You don't HAVE to be an indian if you don't want to. Turok himself is an indian, though. Hmm . . . I can't remember the storyline, if there even was any. Haha. I should have looked this up before starting to write the review, damnit. Ah well, kill Tal'Set, the first Turok, 'cause he's wearing a big mask and he's evil. Well . . . not really evil, but for some reason Turok (or whom ever you choose to play with) has been brainwashed by evil forces and he thinks that Tal'Set is evil so now he has to destroy him. And to destroy him you have to fight other warriors in other arenas, obviously. Blah, screw this, I'm babbling. Safe to say, it's not a story that really sticks to you as you play the game.

Gameplay

This is the beauty of this game. The controls are fucking amazing and you will most definitely have great fun running around killing your friends. If you've got the basic control-settings you'll be moving around using the C-buttons, look around (aim) using the control stick, jump using R, change weapons by holding A and choosing a weapon from the wheel with the control stick, fire with Z, and use/toggle the weapons' secondary functions using the B-button (I'll talk more about that later). When you first play this game you get to choose from three different modes: multiplayer, 1 player trial, or 2 player trial. All of the modes are in fact multi player modes since this is a multiplayer game only, but the trials are more quest focused.

If you choose multi player you get to choose how many players you want to have in the game. There can be a maximum of four people playing at once, and if you don't have four HUMANS available you can always throw in a couple of bots. There are three difficulties to choose from, but after you've played for a while none of them are all that hard to beat, which is a bit of a shame.

Anyway, after you've chosen the amount of players you want in the matches it's time to choose characters. The more you play in the quest-mode kind of thing the more characters and character-skins you will unlock. Most characters are very similar to each other, but there are ones with their own special abilities. The raptor for an example: It's unable to use weapons and have to fight using its claws. The normal Z-attack is a fast swing with the claws and a B-button attack will result in a furious attack using the hind legs. The raptor is also much faster than the other characters.

So yeah, there are a couple of these special characters for you to discover. After choosing your characters it's time to choose five weapons from a rather large selection. And the same as with the characters, the more you play the quest mode the more weapons you unlock. There are four different kinds of weapons that use different kinds of ammunition. There is a rather powerful warhammer that everyone is equipped with (except for SPESHUL CHRCTERSS!!11) and it doesn't need any ammo, obviously. Then we have the weapons that requires blue ammo (bullets), such as a shotgun, rifle, minigun, and more. And theeeeeeeen we have the weapons that requires green ammo (energy-cells). Those are the coolest and most unique weapons. We have the Inflator that sort of pumps air into the victim causing it to grow larger. If you toggle to the secondary function of this weapon you'll be able to shoot a vicious burst of the airy-stuff into an enemy, and it causes a lot of damage. You can make your enemies so big that they'll pop. Yay!

Another energy-weapon is the classic plasma rifle. This is a powerful rifle that shoots beams of plasma. If you press the B-button you'll get a scope-function for it. Yay! It rules. Ah well, there are lots of other energy weapons that are even cooler, but I'll let you find out about them yourself. Now for the last kind of weapons . . . the ones that requires reeeeeeeeeed ammunition! Explosive weapons, that is. Well . . . The weapons themselves don't explode, they just fire stuff that explodes. You know . . . bombs and grenades and stuff.

There are three RED weapons in the game. The scorpion launcher, which is actually nothing but a fancy name for a weapon that launches missiles. Then we have the grenade launcher, which was left without a fancy name. And last, but certainly not least, the napalm something! You fire napalm-thingies that can attach to anything, even enemies, and you make them blow up with a simple press on the B-button. Yay!

Well . . . there actually is a fifth type of weapons . . . the ones you only can find in the arenas. The fifth group consists of beartraps, land mines, and turrets. These can be placed in strategic locations to fuck things up for your opponents.

Enough about the weapons . . . when you're done selecting your WEAPONS you just get to choose level. Nothing much to say about choosing levels, really. Well, you can either choose everyone vs. everyone levels, team-levels (where you join different teams, obviously), catch the flag-or-some-shit-like-that-levels (where you get points if you catch a flag and then bring it to a certain part of the stage), or shoot-the-freaking-monkey/hen/small dinosaur-levels, where one person is turned into an animal of some sort and then the rest of the players have to kill him/her before he/she finds the white thing that turns him back to normal. If he finds it someone else will be turned into an animal.

When the course selectin part is done you just have to shoot each other. Hmm . . . you can also create your own characters, which adds a whole other levelt o the game. Not appearance-wise, but name-wise. Your save file will keep record of such information as how many frags you've got, how many times you've died, how many matches you've won, how many thingies you've collected, and how many medals you've collected. There are several ways to get medals. Each multiplayer course has got its own medal, and if you play really well on it you'll get it. It's harder than it sounds. You will also get medals if you beat a boss in the trial-mode or if you kill a certain amount of people. There are 50-something medals to get. I've still got seven left, but I have no idea how to get them or what they stand for. Maybe I'll get one if I kill ten thousand people. Hmm . . . Ah well, enough about me, let's talk about you- I mean . . . Turok. The medal thing is what has kept me playing this game for so many years, and it really brings something extra to the game.

Ok. Now for the trial-modes. Here you get to follow a certain path of arenas where you have to accomplish certain objectives. The objectives are usually to achive a number of frags, tags, or flag-captures, but they can also be something like "KILL DA FAWKIN BOSS CAUSE IM A COPP U IDIOT! LMFAO!" Well . . . You get the general idea. If you play well in the trials you will be rewarded with new weapons, new characters, new skins, medals, thingies, cheats, and even new game-modes! Yay!

Graphics

The graphics in this game are rather dark and evil-esque. Which is good. Most of the arenas take place in temple/crypt-looking areas, but some of them take place in high tech steel . . . tubes . . . or something. It's late/early and I'm tired. Everything flows great and the frame rate never seems to go down at all. All the characters have their own unique looks and are well designed. I don't really know what else to say about the graphics. They look nice and do their job.

Sound

I don't even know if this game has any music. Haha. The title screen has got quiet music and jungle-screams, but I have no idea about the stages. Heh. That's pathetic . . . I've owned the game for two or three years and I don't even know if it has got music or not. Haha. Ah well, the monster-cries, weapons-sounds, and other sound effects are well made and brings a great atmosphere to the game. This was short.

Replayability

OMFG!!111 The replayability of this game is great. There are 32 stages to choose from, tons of weapons, different game modes, and four different multiplayer modes. You will never grow tired of this game as long as you've got someone to play with. I've beaten everything there is to beat in the game except for the last seven multiplayer medals, and I still love it. If you ever get all the medals you could just create a new character and start all over again. This game is loaded with action, small but yet big arenas where the action never ends. In a good way, too. Not like in the old Doom-games where the non stop action just bored you. No, no, no. This action will keep you going for years. That I can promise you.

The only drawback as far as replayability goes is if you don't have friends or family members to play it with. Completing all the Trial missions is a challenge, but fighting CPU controlled characters only in multiplayer gets rather easy when you have a few dozen hours pumped into the game.

Originality

Lots of original weapons and a great variety of game modes to choose from. They feel very unique for the Turok-series and gives the game a certain niche. So the originality is good. Not overwhelming, but good. Well . . . out of a weapon-point-of-view it's overwhelming. So the originality rocks. Haha. At least if you like weapons, and who doesn't?

Overall

One of the best multiplayer FPS-games ever made. Now with all the new games out the only thing you miss is the ability to be more than four players, but thanks to the well designed levels this game still brings you enough action for several years. If you like Turok, get it. If you like FPSs, get it. If you like multiplayer games, get it. If you like me, get it. If you like bowling, get it. Well . . . Just get it. Hmm . . . Maybe not if you hate the genre, though. Heh.

It's time to end this somewhat hiatus and start writing video game reviews for no one again. Funny that after all of these months of college and unemployment I start wasting time with video games and shitty reviews once I finally get a job.

Also, maybe I'll start reviewing games that have been released within the past six months for once thanks to my new disposable (heavy emphasis on this word) income. Maybe.

I got an urge to collect crap for my chao in Sonic Adventure 2 Battle. I had quite a lot of fun until I realised that I already had a chao with 99 in all stats. That took a bit of the fun away but I have another 16 chao I can level up. But now I'm in a mood to play Zelda instead.

I'm quite glad I went through with this The Green Shell idea. Combined with Hair, I've managed to build up a little backlog of updates that could last me at least a week. Although I have a feeling I'll put out a few of them at a time, which means I'll run out sooner. But yeah, while it's not necessarily easy to come up with shitty ideas for it, I have been looking around at a lot of random video game stuff over the last 12 hours and it's quite fun. I also need to play some more Star Ocean; I've got reptile aliens to kill and annoying girls to ignore! My hatred for Welch has gone down a lot since I got Lymle into my party. That annoying fuck pisses me off, 'kay.
