1987 - Konami - NES

Konami. Here comes a good game.

Here is our hero standing on a mountain of dirt and skulls. Here comes a good game, indeed.

Sweet.

Sweeeeet.

The background graphics in this game are great. This is not a good example of this.

This, on the other hand...

Staff meeting at konami hq, 1987 - "more skulls!"

That dragon head's about to shoot a fireball at me and that statue guy is about to throw a big rock at me and my sword level is so low!

They spent a lot more time on backgrounds that on sprites!

All right so most of the levels just have palette-swapped tiles. I'm not complaining.

The levels are all small and connected through an overworld map. Which means a lot of levels, you have to traverse multiple times, in different directions. SKULL.

Colors!

Near the end of the area on the world map, MORE SKULLS HAPPEN. Also you can get into little fight-levels when the monsters come at you.

This is one of those outdoor fight levels. That is a skeleton that throws bones at you in an arc. There are also skeletons with whips. Konami Konami.

"we r going 2 get u"

This is a bonus level in which dude throws money at me.

I wanted a pass. I wanted three actually.

This game has silly first-person dungeon sections that are really lame.

The rest of the game however is anything but lame.

ooh different tileset!

My kinda forest!

Yeah I'm doing a screw attack. In a place that looks quite Metroid-esque.

Final boss. Of course his arms are made of skulls.

I guess this is the evil leaving the island or w/t/f/e. Cool though.

A true Konami ending: the bad guy's hideout blows up.

Sweeeeeeeet.
