2001 Traveller's Tales - Universal Interactive - PS2

Well, Crash is back once again. And I would like to say that this is a very fun game, but you must be patient, for the loading times are horrible. I must say though, there are many new things to do, such as drive in trucks, get chased by new things, and much more. Plus, while this game might look cartoonish, it can be hard and frustrating at times also.

Gameplay ~ 7/10

There are many new controls to unlock after beating certain bosses, such as sneaking along nitro boxes for example. Although there are new controls, they are overall kind of sloppy. When you try to move, Crash moves quite slow compared to the other games. This doesn't happen often though. Another thing, if you are stuck on a tough boss, and you keep getting game over, you must wait through the near 40-second loading times to do it over again. And to top it off, you start off with only four lives after the game over, most likely to be used quickly, and then you must wait for the loading again over and over. Personally, I think they should just abolish the lives all together. But other than that, the gameplay is not that bad, with the new moves to preform and everything.

Graphics ~ 9/10

As usual, the graphics are good. The only reason I took off a point is because they made it look a bit too cartoony this time around. Especially in some of the cut-scenes, which should be better. But you will still be happy with the graphics.

Replay Value ~ 10/10

You might want to just play straight through the game and get all of the crystals on your first time through, but after you finish it like that, there are many more things to go back and do. To get a gem in a level, you must smash every single box it that specific level. But that isn't not all the extra things there are to do. There are three kinds of relics in each level. To get relics, you must complete the level purely dedicated to speed. Each of the three relics has a time limit you must get to obtain it. Each one getting harder and harder. Once you beat the final boss with everything completed, you get a special ending also...

Fun Factor ~ 8/10

Besides the loading times, which are not that fun, there is much more to do and a lot more of interaction, which leads to good old fashioned fun. Although it may be frustrating at times, you will eventually get past that part you are stuck on.

+s and -s chart

+ New things to do
+ More interactions
+ Good replay value

- Loading times are bad
- Bad game over system

Well to sum it up, this game isn't that bad. There is a lot of fun involved, and plenty of things to do. I recommend it to fans of the series, or newcomers.

7/10
