- Dance Dance Revolution Konamix

2002 Konami - Konami - PSX

I used to think Dance Dance Revolution was a stupid game, like a lot of people. But then I saw it in an
arcade at an amusement park when I was with a couple friends. We all looked at it and talked about how
we've heard about it. We finally played it, though, and I must say that it rocks. It's good exercise and it's
rewarding when you pass harder songs and get better. I guess it depends on the person, as with anything
else, though. Anyway... I'm reviewing DDR Konamix so I'll get on to reviewing it.
- Graphics: 6
The character designs can be pretty cool, but they aren't rendered very well. The backgrounds are pretty
cool, though. Well, in my opinion. I guess the couldn't go nuts with the graphics so they could keep the
FPS at 30/sec. It's no big deal. Not like that's anything the game focuses on, heh.
- Control: 10
Well, it depends on the kind of pad you have. If you have a plain soft pad, the Maniac level songs will be
hard to play without the thing bunching up and stuff... it's annoying as hell. You can solve that by getting
some ply wood, taping it down and putting hard floor covering over it, though. But I wont do that...
I'm building my own metal hard pads like the ones in the arcade. It costs a good chunk of cash, but oh
well. $130 per pad isn't that bad. Haha. There's nothing hard about control, though... once you know
where the arrows are, it's easy.
- Song list: 8
The song list in this game is MUCH better (And bigger) than the original DDR USA game that came
out last year with 52 songs total. They have a lot of songs I like playing, but also some crappy ones...
Let Them Move? No one likes that song... Konami of Japan INSISTED upon it being in the game,
though. Haha, oh well. Konamix doesn't have any licensed songs, though. Nothing from Smile.DK,
Captain Jack, etc... which is alright. It leaves something to look forward to in sequels. It's good to see
Konami of America got us people in the US a pretty solid song list.
- Sound: 9
The music sounds good, of course. It's all the more better if you have surround sound, or something
like that... which I am trying to get. Heh. It's annoying when the people boo you, but you can turn
that off. Some people hate the announcer, and some people don't. You can turn him off, but I don't.
I think his lameness is cool and it wouldn't be DDR without him saying something stupid. Haha.
There's only one that I hate... but I can't remember it. Haha! That's like telling a joke and forgetting
the punch line. You like it when I tease you, though.
- Menu Layout: 9
It's the DDR 4th mix layout... you pick your section of music and play whatever's on that list. I don't
like it like that, though... so I just turn "All Music" mode on. Yay! Otherwise, the menus and
everything are pleasing to the eye.
- Game play: 10
Yay. Like I said earlier, it's fun to get into. There are four stationary arrows at the top of the screen.
There will be arrows that scroll up from the bottom of the screen. When the scrolling arrows overlap
the stationary arrows, you then hit the corresponding arrow on the platform. And that's it! There are
plenty of modes to play. Training is the best. You can practice harder songs at slow speeds and with
assistant things (Like hand claps when you're supposed to hit an arrow). A solid US release of DDR,
in my opinion.
