1998 Atari Games - Midway - Arcade
-Visuals 10/10-
Falling far away from the Gauntlet of old, you’re propelled into a visually intense world that offers you exceptional character detail, special effects and constantly switching camera angles. Short, interesting FMV’s round out the stages with displays of the upcoming foes that constantly attack you at a maddening pace.
Pitting you in the middle of some fantasy world, your goal is to make it through the stages set before you. Every stage is well detailed and beautifully crafted, as are the enemies you face, and the characters that you use. Explosive magic flares across the screens, and enormous boss characters round out the roster in the visuals department.

-Audio 10/10-
Adventurous music greet you through out several stages, and keep up with the action that flows onscreen. Giving you several different tracks to listen to while you play, each stages music fits the mode. Sound effects come across a stereo system in crystal quality, even though the announcers voice can be a little blaring in the speakers, but it’s so rare that you won’t be too upset or turned off by it.
Ominous voice overs will fill your ears, as you're directed by the mysterious announcer. Sound effects include the sounds of swords clashing, and footsteps rushing towards you. Orcs and trolls grunt and howl as you annihilate them, and without missing a beat, explosions match in time with what is going on in-game. First rate stuff here.

-Control 10/10-
Your character movements are done near flawlessly, with an action, a magic and a turbo button to use as your attacks. You’re not left with any excessive button presses to gain extra attacks, as most of them are just a combination of two buttons pressed at the same time. A three button set up is what you'll find located to your right. A standard arcade stick to your left. There shouldn't be a problem getting used to the standard arcade button set-up, and without much work, you'll find that character control is easy enough to do.

-Game Play 10/10-
Gauntlet Legends places you in the midst of a massive adventure taking you through 20 + stages of goblin and monster smashing action. Your goal is to re-collect the missing shards of some mystical window in order to put an evil spirit back in it’s realm. When playing, you’ll find that there are secrets to unlock, items to collect, monsters to destroy, massive bosses to conquer and statistics to raise. You’ll find that Gauntlet Legends plays much like an RPG of sorts, in which you’re required to level up to gain extra stats to make it through other stages. Good stuff.
The best part of Gauntlet Legends, is the fact that you can play up to four players at once, which can get fast and furious, and mighty competitive. You’ll find that smashing out monsters, collecting the gold, and finding everything that the game has to offer in four player, can be fun, as well as frustrating, because your friends are out to get the one up on you. While you can’t really kill off your friends, you can try to screw them on gold and other items. Again, pretty good stuff.
Another feature that the arcade version offers up is the fact that you're working against a timer of sorts. In order to keep moving, you must keep your player healthy by smashing open the barrels and opening chests. Each time you're hit, you're losing energy. Each passign second, your health meter drops by 1 point. So it is very very imparative that you keep your characters health at maximum. You'll also find that you can keep your character on a specific machine by using a intial and pin number. This can help you immensly if you have to leave the arcade and then come back at a later date.

-Overall 10/10-
Gauntlet Legends is one of those multi-player games that gives you the visuals, the audio, the game play and the control all wrapped up into a single arcade cabinet. It’s worth the money that you may shell out, just to play it for a few hours, and it is by all means a first rate game. you can’t go wrong with Gauntlet Legends and it is one of those games that can't quite be contained to one specific genre.
