Gameplay
Ah the gameplay, this is the game. In this one, you are in the house of the devil. In fact, you are the housekeeper. What do you do as a housekeeper in the devil’s house? Sweeping? Dusting? Naw, how about killing trespassers. That’s right, the premise of this game is: set traps, kill others. There is a wide variety of traps, ranging from pits, to guillotines, all designed to harm or kill anyone who dares challenge you or your satanic lord. You can not exit your house, but that doesn’t matter, enough people will come into your house to have some fun. Your house has quite a few floors and so many rooms, you can sometimes get horribly lost or stuck. Why is getting to a dead end so bad? Well, you can’t fight any enemies head on, all you can do is strategically set traps and flee. So what do you classify this game as? A RPG? A Fighting game? It’s a tough question, but I will have to say strategy, after all you will need a strategic mind, because there is a limit to the number of traps to be set at a time. The gameplay in this one was very original, and very Enjoyable.
- Graphics
Nice graphics in this one. My philosophy with graphics is that they are not necessary, but of done well, can make the game much better. In this games case, they were done very well, and helped the game greatly. Now of course you may be too busy enjoying the glee that comes with murdering others in a game, but in this one there is tons of detail. All the bricks and such were places with great detail and cracks and such. I suppose when your entire game is played out inside one big house, your graphical team has time to put in the little details and such that made the graphics so amazing to on with a keen eye. Also, you have little scenes of talking between those who are going to invade your house next. Those scenes take place outside of the house, and don’t worry all you graphics lovers, those were not left out of the in depth graphics job here. The characters and invaders and such were also put into a 3D effect and placed wit great detail. At some points I could also see some people scratching their head, and coughing and getting chills up their back. Not to mention the different effects the traps have on the intruders. Any person with a keen graphical eye wont be disappointed with this one. I wasn’t!
- Sound
I enjoyed the sound in this one. First, let’s talk about the music. The music in this one fits the mood perfectly. Most of the time you are listening to a kind of dreary, church-type music. Maybe that is because you are in the devils house, so the dark church music signifies the opposite of all that is believed within the church. Or in other words, the devil. Of course I always make things more complicated and significant than they are. Perhaps the organ/piano music was chosen because it fits the killing mood. Or even simpler, they put it in because they enjoy it. I don’t know, you make the call. Now, let’s discuss the sound effects. In this one the sounds effects consist mostly of guillotine slicing, pit falling, fire burning, and pretty much all other trap sounds you can think of. Then of course you have my favorite sound of all. What is it you ask? WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh yes, that’s the one, the shrill painful sound of being trapped in one of my beautiful traps. You gotta love the sound effects in this one. In fact you gotta love all audio in general in this one.
- Story
Here is a brief synopsis of the story in Kagero. Basically, you are one of two sons of the king of an unknown country. The king is dying. So your evil brother has a plan to frame you and get you hung so he can have the throne. He succeeds at that. Then, while you are on the hanging platform, with a noose around your neck, a messenger of the devil arrives and makes a proposition. This proposition is for you to serve the devil, and in exchange, you will be taken away from your imminent death. Well, this was an offer you couldn’t refuse. So, you are warped away from your platform, and appear inside the house where the portal to the devil is. The devil needs to kill all those who try to stop his re-awakening until he can be freed from his trap. To be freed, he needs you to kill, and kill enough for him to be freed. He provides you with traps and tells you what to do. From there, the killing begins. People have their curiosity, or grudges, or whatever it may be. And these people are the perfect targets. Cool eh?
- Enjoyability
Well, here we go, now I have to discuss how much you will enjoy this game and why. This section is hard because of how original the game is. It has a completely new premise, and if you don’t like this premise, then you wont like the game. That being said up front, I will now discuss how much you will like this if you like me and had an open mind about the new type of game. Upon first sight this game seems odd and confusing. The new idea in the game seems like a good one, but doesn’t seem like it will have a listing impression. Then, after you play it for a while, well, then your view of it completely changes. After a few hours I found this one engrossing and hard to put down. All that killing, oops, I think I’m drooling.

Replay Value: Below Average
Unfortunately, the replay value in this game is not that high. But what is good is that this is one of the few flaws in the entire game. Now, the replay value was low in this one because once you get through the game, you know all the enemies, and you know the entire storyline, and those are two of the major driving forces in this game. Of course, you may be a very sadistic person and play it simply for the killing. Because of that the replay value didn’t get a really low score, but it wasn’t high, I’ll guarantee you that.
- Challenge: Above Average
This game is not challenging at it’s core. But because it is a new concept, and there are many different strategies for eliminating your foes it takes a while to learn. Another thing that raised the challenge in this is the fact that you cannot attack your enemies the conventional way, you must use traps, and because of that, you must stay away form your foes and simply strategically place your traps.
- Originality: Extreme
As I’ve said before, this game is very original. In fact, I don’t even know which genre to place it in, let alone compare it to in originality terms. This game is a genre of it’s own, the deception genre.
- Buy or Rent: Buy
I have a strong felling you will want to buy this one. Once you play it for an hour, you will be hooked, and you will feel a strong urge to head to your local EB and pick this one up It’s like crack.
